Using addiction as a pejorative makes you an asshole, because no one who is addicted to any substance is deserving of any punishment because of it. They deserve support, they deserve help, and they certainly deserve to be mourned if they pass on at an early age.

If you go around saying Whitney Houston’s death should go unmourned because god, that fucking cokehead, what’s wrong with that asshole, on public forums you are demeaning the very complicated feelings that come along with knowing and loving an addict. And worse, you are doing it in spaces where her family and friends may be able to see it. I’M LOOKING AT YOU, BIG-NAME PEOPLE ON TWITTER. 

Further… Look, jerks. You have no right to write off anyone’s feelings about how they choose to mourn. Mourning someone who meant something to you, no matter what that something was, is okay. It is healthy. It is normal. If you don’t care? Fine. Go be uncaring somewhere I don’t have to fucking see it. I don’t care about you.
